Kerala University secures patent for innovative diabetic wound dressing

Researchers at the University of Kerala have developed a groundbreaking dressing specifically for diabetic wounds, which has been patented as a biocompatible hydrogel film. The invention, titled “Synthesis of Ferulic Acid Incorporated Alginate Dialdehyde Gelatin Hydrogel Film,” aims to accelerate the healing process by leveraging the properties of ferulic acid and L-Proline. The hydrogel changes color to indicate infection and mimics the properties of human skin effectively. Pre-clinical studies on rats have been conducted, with human clinical trials planned for the future. The patent is valid for 20 years from the filing date of February 3.
