Environmental protesters block French cruise liner port – Times of India

Environmental activists in Marseille blocked the cruise ship port to protest against the pollution caused by these large vessels. They criticized the use of heavy fuel oil, destruction of wildlife, impact on the climate, and poor working conditions for employees. The protest forced some ships to turn back or wait outside the port. The activists argue that the cruise industry damages the environment and local economy. The number of cruise passengers in Marseille has increased, leading to concerns about pollution. Similar protests have taken place in other European cities. Stop Croisieres was formed during the pandemic, with residents in Marseille lodging legal complaints about pollution levels in the port area.
