Anura Kumara Dissanayake, known as AKD, was confident he would win the presidential race in Sri Lanka, embodying the change that people wanted. He entered politics as a student with the JVP, influenced by his cousin’s death during political turmoil. Over the years, JVP shifted from a revolutionary stance to a more mainstream political party. Despite initial setbacks in elections, AKD rose to lead the party and formed the NPP alliance. The alliance gained momentum after a people’s uprising, leading to AKD’s election as President. He is seen as a symbol of hope and change for Sri Lankans, especially the youth, who are disillusioned with the political elite.
