Travelling to the United Kingdom will become slightly more challenging for European travellers starting in April 2025. Currently, Europeans can visit the UK without a visa or fee, but a new rule will require them to pay a £10 waiver fee. This new rule is part of the UK’s plan to digitize its border and immigration system with an electronic travel authorization (ETA) scheme. The ETAs are linked to a traveller’s passport and aim to improve security checks. The UK government hopes that this new system will enhance security and provide a smoother experience for visitors to the country.
