U.S. Coast Guard says Russian naval vessels crossed into buffer zone off Alaska



The U.S. Coast Guard recently observed a group of Russian naval vessels crossing into US waters off Alaska to avoid sea ice. This is allowed under international rules and customs. The Russian vessels included two submarines, a frigate, and a tug boat, and they ventured 30 miles inside an area beyond US territorial waters. The Coast Guard is actively patrolling the area to protect US interests and fish stocks while promoting maritime norms.
