A tragic incident occurred off the coast of northern France as at least 12 migrants lost their lives while trying to cross the Channel to England. The boat ran into trouble near Boulogne-sur-Mer, with around 70 people on board. French authorities confirmed the death toll and continued search for two missing migrants. Most of the deceased were from Eritrea, including three minors. The French navy and other vessels were involved in the rescue operation, with 53 people saved.
