Tourist, 30, dies after losing her leg in shark attack off Canary Islands

A German tourist tragically died from a rare shark attack near the Canary Islands while swimming next to her catamaran. The incident occurred off the northwest coast of Gran Canaria. Despite emergency personnel flying 320 miles to evacuate her, she passed away from her injuries in the helicopter. Shark attacks are uncommon, with only six confirmed incidents in Spain’s history. The International Shark Attack File reported a total of 69 unprovoked attacks worldwide in 2023, resulting in 14 fatalities. Australia has the highest number of attacks, accounting for 22% of the total. Fox News has reached out to Salvamento Marítimo for further information.
