Iran’s mission to the United Nations expressed that the spirit of resistance will be strengthened following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces, was a mastermind behind the Gaza war. Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group, a Hamas ally, announced that it was escalating its war against Israel. US President Joe Biden saw Sinwar’s death as an opportunity for the conflict in Gaza to end and for Israeli hostages to be released. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the war would continue until the hostages were returned. Despite Western hopes for a ceasefire, Sinwar’s death could lead to increased hostilities in the Middle East.
