South Korea fires warning shots after North Korean soldiers briefly cross border

South Korea’s military fired warning shots at North Korean soldiers who briefly crossed the border over the weekend. The incident happened in the heavily fortified border between the two Koreas. Tensions have been rising on the Korean Peninsula due to North Korea launching balloons carrying trash into the South in response to anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent by North Korean defectors. South Korea suspended a military deal and restarted loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts along the border, which angered Pyongyang. North Korea is now installing its own loudspeakers along the border. The two Koreas remain technically at war since the 1950-53 conflict.
