Sajith Premadasa gets highest share of Tamil vote in Sri Lanka polls

Sajith Premadasa arrived at the election commission office in Colombo after losing the presidential election to Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He received the highest share of the Tamil minority’s votes, securing over 40% in Tamil-majority areas. The support from the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi party helped him gain Tamil votes. Dissanayake’s victory was seen as a positive change, but concerns remain about his engagement with Tamil issues. The JVP’s history and stance on minority rights will be important going forward.
