Remains found in Notre-Dame Cathedral excavations could belong to famous French poet

Since the devastating fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2019, a massive restoration project has been taking place. Archaeologists have been exploring the site, uncovering thousands of ancient artifacts, including two lead sarcophagi discovered in 2022. One of the deceased individuals found has been identified as Antoine de La Porte, while the other is believed to be the famous French poet Joachim du Bellay. Evidence such as medical conditions and lifestyle habits have led researchers to hypothesize the identity of the unidentified man. Despite some doubts from researchers, the restoration efforts at Notre-Dame continue, with plans for the cathedral to reopen in December 2024.
