The Ramon Magsaysay Awards were established in 1957 to honour the late President of the Philippines who died in a plane crash in March 1957. Often referred to as Asia’s Nobel Prize, the awards recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to society. Over the years, the awards have recognized various leaders and activists from different Asian countries. The categories have evolved over time, with a new category for Emergent Leadership introduced in 2009. This year’s honorees include individuals from Japan, Bhutan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand who have made significant contributions to their communities. The awards ceremony will be held in Manila to celebrate their achievements.
