Pakistan’s government is set to review and approve a new constitutional amendment that reportedly aims to reduce the power of the judiciary. The amendment includes plans to raise the retirement age for judges and fix the tenure of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The government has gained support in both the Senate and the National Assembly to pass the amendment, with the JUI-F and PPP parties expressing their willingness to support it. However, the PTI party has decided to boycott Parliament when the amendment is presented, seeking more time for deliberation. There are also allegations of lawmakers being forced to support the amendment, which have been denied by government officials.
