One dead, 23 rescued from Colorado gold mine tour after equipment malfunction



Twelve people were trapped in a former Colorado gold mine turned tourist destination after an elevator malfunctioned. Eleven were rescued earlier, but unfortunately, one person died. The remaining 12 were rescued hours later, with four sustaining minor injuries. The mine gives tours about 1,000 feet underground. The governor expressed relief that everyone was safely rescued and offered condolences to the family of the person who died. The mine, discovered in the 1800s, still operates tours and is inspected daily for safety. The incident prompted a swift response from local and state authorities.
