North Korea vows to block border with South Korea and build front-line defense structures

North Korea announced plans to permanently block its border with South Korea and strengthen defense structures in response to what it called “confrontational hysteria” from South Korea and the U.S. The move is seen as a pressure tactic, but it’s unclear how it will impact relations as cross-border travel has been halted for years. South Korea vowed to punish North Korea for any provocations. North Korea has been reinforcing its border since April, likely to prevent defections. The situation on the Korean Peninsula remains tense, with North Korea conducting weapons tests and military drills ongoing.
