Ireland approves Palestinian ambassador for first time

Ireland has appointed its first full Palestinian ambassador after formally recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state earlier this year. Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid will now serve as the Palestinian ambassador to Ireland, moving up from her previous position as Head of Mission. Spain, Norway, and Slovenia also recognized Palestine around the same time as Ireland. The establishment of full diplomatic relations between Ireland and Palestine was completed in September. The upgrade in representation means the Palestinian embassy in Ireland will now have full diplomatic privileges and protections under the 1961 Vienna Convention.
