In Putin’s wartime Russia, military corruption is suddenly taboo

The war in Ukraine has led to a crackdown on corruption within Russia’s Ministry of Defense. President Putin has reassigned top officials and made arrests, sending a message that excess and disloyalty will not be tolerated. Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, accused of taking bribes and leading an extravagant lifestyle, is among those arrested. Putin has demanded greater efficiency and an anti-corruption drive in defense procurement.
