Tens of thousands of minority Hindus in Bangladesh rallied to demand protection from attacks and harassment, as well as the dropping of sedition charges against community leaders. The protests come after the overthrow of the secular government and concerns about the rise of hardline Islamists. International figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump, have expressed concern over the violence against Hindus and other minorities. The Hindu community is calling for laws to protect minorities and a tribunal to prosecute oppression, as well as demanding the withdrawal of politically motivated cases against their leaders. Protest rallies are planned in various cities to press for their rights.
