Geography teacher finds ancient stone with mysterious message in garden, spent years seeking answers

A geography teacher in Coventry, England found an ancient stone in his garden while weeding in 2020, leading to a fascinating discovery. The sandstone featured carved parallel lines which turned out to be ogham, an ancient Irish written language. The teacher reported the find to the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and archaeologists were amazed by the discovery, which shed new light on early medieval activity in Coventry. The stone was later translated by a researcher at the University of Glasgow and is now on display at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum. The teacher donated the stone, and it will be part of an exhibition until April 2025.
