Chinese police say a suspect is in custody in the stabbing of 4 U.S. college instructors

In northeastern China’s Jilin province, four instructors from Iowa’s Cornell College were attacked in Beishan public park by a man with a knife. Chinese police have detained a suspect, and the injured are in stable condition. The motive for the attack is not yet known. Both Beijing and Washington are working to enhance people-to-people exchanges despite tensions. The incident was not widely reported in China due to government control over sensitive information. Cornell College partners with Beihua University in China, where American professors teach courses in various subjects. Chinese President Xi Jinping aims to invite 50,000 young Americans to China, but the US State Department has issued a travel advisory for China due to safety concerns. Despite this incident, China assures the safety of foreigners and hopes it will not affect cultural exchanges between the two countries.
