Chicago mayor’s office accepted designer gifts without properly reporting them: OIG

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has been accused of not properly documenting designer gifts and blocking access to the City Hall gift room, according to a report from the City of Chicago Office of the Inspector General. The report alleges that the mayor’s office accepted gifts like Hugo Boss cuff links, a Montblanc pen, and a U.S. National Soccer Team jersey without listing the donors for almost 70% of the gifts. When the OIG requested access to the gift room for inspection, they were denied. Mayor Johnson defended the gifts, stating they are logged and there is a process in place. He also denied knowledge of the gift room mentioned in the report.
