Canada has accused Indian Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah of being behind violence and intimidation against Sikh activists in Canada. This accusation has sparked a diplomatic spat between Ottawa and New Delhi. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison confirmed the government’s belief that Shah orchestrated the campaign, which included the assassination of an activist. India has denied the accusation, but Canada claims to have evidence of Indian government involvement in the murder of a Canadian Sikh activist. The US has also charged a former Indian intelligence officer in a foiled murder plot. Canada alleges that India has been gathering information on Indian nationals and Canadian citizens in Canada. India has dismissed Canada’s evidence as weak and flimsy.
