California Democrats ‘playing dirty tricks’ to keep Prop 47 reform off ballot, GOP leader says

California Democrats are playing “dirty tricks” to prevent a measure to reform Proposition 47 from making it onto the November ballot. This measure aims to increase penalties for criminals to address California’s rampant theft problems. However, Gov. Gavin Newsom and some Democrats prefer other public safety bills over this reform. They plan to introduce clauses to make the bills inoperable if the reform is approved by voters. Many law enforcement officials blame Prop 47 for the increase in theft and smash-and-grab crimes in the state. Republicans are calling out the Democrats for not addressing important issues like personal theft and drug trafficking in their proposed bills. Governor Newsom has previously faced criticism for not taking effective measures to combat crime in California.
