Biden to visit American cemetery in France that Trump skipped

US President Joe Biden and his wife are ending their trip to France with a visit to an American cemetery that former president Donald Trump skipped in 2018. The cemetery is where US soldiers and marines killed in World War One are buried. Biden, a Democrat, is running for re-election against Trump, a Republican. This visit allows Biden to show a contrast with his rival. Trump’s reason for not visiting in 2018 was bad weather, but his chief of staff attended instead. Throughout his trip, Biden has made subtle references to Trump without naming him. Biden has emphasized the importance of strong US alliances, while Trump has been critical of NATO. The White House emphasized that Biden is not just the president, but also the commander-in-chief.
