Bangladesh taking steps to extradite Sheikh Hasina from India

The current interim government in Bangladesh, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, plans to initiate legal procedures to bring back former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India. Hasina fled to India last month after violent protests in Bangladesh, where she has been accused of carrying out “massacres”. The country’s International Crimes Tribunal chief has stated that they will start the process to bring her back to face trial. Hasina’s government has faced accusations of human rights abuses, and her presence in India has angered Bangladesh. The interim government is under pressure to demand her extradition and trial for the deaths of hundreds of demonstrators during the unrest. An investigation has also been opened into enforced disappearances during Hasina’s rule.
