Apollo 8 ‘Earthrise’ astronaut dies in Washington plane crash

Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders, known for capturing the iconic Earthrise photograph, has passed away at the age of 90 in a plane crash. His body was recovered by officials after the crash that happened off the coast of Washington state. The photograph he took during the 1968 mission inspired the global environmental movement and led to the creation of Earth Day. Anders’ contribution to the space program will be greatly missed by his family and the world.
