World Bank green-lights $1bn for Dasu Hydropower Project

The World Bank has approved an additional $1 billion in funding for Pakistan’s Dasu Hydropower Stage I Project to support the country’s transition to clean and affordable energy. This project will expand hydropower electricity supply, improve access to services for local communities, and build capacity for future hydropower projects. The project is expected to have a significant impact on Pakistan’s energy sector and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, the project will support socio-economic initiatives in the Upper Kohistan region, including improvements in education, health, employment, and transport sectors. Overall, the project aims to benefit the community, particularly women, and contribute to Pakistan’s goal of increasing renewable energy sources by 2031.
