Shravya, a government employee in Bengaluru, faces challenges finding reliable childcare for her two young children while she works. Despite legal requirements for creche facilities in workplaces with more than 50 female employees, many offices, especially in the private and government sectors, do not provide them. Some progress has been made in setting up creches in government offices across the State, but awareness among working parents remains low. Corporate companies, on the other hand, often outsource creche services and offer various models of support to their employees. However, lower-middle-class parents, especially those in informal sectors, struggle to find affordable and reliable childcare options. There is a need for stronger childcare policies and better implementation to support working parents.
