The Human Resources Department at RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant recently sent out a circular asking employees if they were interested in taking part in a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). This caused concern among employees who worry that it is a way to reduce the workforce and potentially privatize the company. Employees have until October 29 to submit their consent. So far, around 500 employees have expressed interest. The circular stated that the survey is just to gauge interest in the VRS and does not serve as an official application. Some employees believe that these measures are aimed at downsizing the company and eventually privatizing it, despite promises made by government officials to protect the plant.
