Trader gets jail for bid to illegally export red sanders



Yousuf, the owner of Suweihan Exporting in Desamangalam, Thrissur, has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined ₹1 lakh for trying to illegally export red sanders by deceiving the Customs department. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) revealed that Yousuf and two others conspired to cheat Customs by disguising red sanders as coir pith blocks. The consignment was intercepted by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at the Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal. Two of the accused are currently on the run.
