Texas committee makes historic move approving subpoena for death row inmate one day before his execution

The Texas House committee voted unanimously to subpoena a death row inmate, Robert Roberson, who is scheduled to receive lethal injection for the alleged killing of his 2-year-old daughter in 2002. Despite doubts over the evidence in the case, Roberson’s clemency request was denied. The subpoena asks for Roberson to provide relevant testimony and information. There is ongoing debate over shaken baby syndrome, with Roberson’s lawyers and Texas lawmakers urging Governor Abbott to stop the execution. A 30-day reprieve has been requested to allow for further investigation and consideration of new evidence. The hearing is scheduled for October 21, with the possibility of the execution being delayed.
