Texas AG sues second doctor accused of providing transgender care to minors

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued an El Paso doctor, Dr. Hector M. Granados, for providing gender-affirming care to minors in violation of state law. Paxton alleges that Granados prescribed puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy to 21 minors for transitioning genders. This is the second lawsuit by Paxton against a doctor for violating the law. The lawsuits are the first of their kind in the country, charging individual doctors with providing transition-related care to minors. While Paxton describes gender-affirming care as “experimental,” major medical organizations support it as an effective way to treat gender dysphoria. The issue has become a point of contention in the upcoming presidential election. Former President Donald Trump has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ support for gender-affirming care, and vowed to abolish it for trans minors if re-elected.
