The Minister of Labour in Muscat has decided to temporarily suspend permits for the employment of expatriate workers in specific professions for six months starting from September 1. This decision affects professions such as construction workers, cleaners, electricians, and chefs. Permits may still be issued for these professions if the request for renewal or transfer of services is made within Oman. The ministry is cracking down on private sector establishments that do not adhere to Omanisation targets. This is not the first time such a decision has been made, and it may be extended depending on the circumstances. Reports show an increase in expatriates in the suspended professions and violations in these jobs.
