Struggling With Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)? This New Study Reveals Cutting Out Sugar And Starch May Help

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic condition that affects the digestive system, leading to symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits. The current dietary recommendation for IBS is the low-FODMAP diet, which excludes certain foods like gluten and lactose. Professor Bodil Ohlsson conducted a study comparing the low-FODMAP diet to a starch and sucrose-reduced (SSRD) diet for IBS patients. The study found that both diets improved symptoms for 75-80% of patients, with the SSRD diet resulting in greater weight loss and reduced sugar cravings. The SSRD diet is easier to follow and more sustainable long-term compared to the low-FODMAP diet.
