Snap sued by New Mexico over Snapchat kid sextortion

The Attorney General of New Mexico has filed a lawsuit against Snap, the company behind Snapchat, claiming that the app’s design features make it easy for predators to target children for sexual abuse. The AG alleges that Snap has misled users into thinking that photos and videos sent on the platform will disappear, when in reality they can be captured and stored indefinitely. This comes after a similar lawsuit was filed against Meta, the owner of Facebook, for enabling child exploitation. The New Mexico Department of Justice is determined to hold these platforms accountable for putting profits over children’s safety.
