In 2016, when I was 35 and my wife Courtney was 32, we made a big change and downsized from our 4-bedroom house in Arizona to a 200-square-foot Airstream RV. We lived in a campground in Tucson and traveled full-time across the country for three years, documenting our experiences on YouTube and in writing. We sold most of our belongings before moving into the Airstream and found that living small was freeing and made household chores easier. We kept our travel expenses low by staying on Bureau of Land Management land, but had to deal with less-than-ideal weather and the challenge of moving frequently. Despite the challenges, living in the RV allowed our net worth to grow, and I became a self-made millionaire by the age of 42. It was a decision that set me on the path to financial independence.
