Punjab govt discontinues Rs14 per unit electricity subsidy for Islamabad consumers

The Punjab government has suspended a subsidy of Rs14 per unit in electricity bills for consumers in the federal capital, according to a statement from the Islamabad Electricity Supply Company. The subsidy, announced by the ruling party in August, was intended to provide relief for consumers using 201 to 500 units per month. However, critics, including political leaders from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have called the subsidy a short-term solution and urged the government to focus on long-term relief measures. The Punjab government has been generating electricity at a higher cost compared to other provinces, leading to concerns about the sustainability of the subsidy.
