Garrett Morris, an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, recently shared his thoughts on the show’s current direction in an interview with The Guardian. He expressed disappointment that the show seems to have lost its original courage and experimental nature. Morris also noted that the show has become more accessible and crowded, catering to too many people. Despite racial tensions within the writing staff during his time on the show, Morris emphasized that SNL creator Lorne Michaels was not part of the problem and wanted diversity on TV. Morris was the only Black writer hired in SNL’s debut season and remained with the show through its fifth season.
