McDonald’s shares fall after CDC says E. coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounders

McDonald’s shares dropped in premarket trading following an E. coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounder burgers, resulting in 10 hospitalizations and one death. The CDC reported 49 cases in 10 states, with most illnesses in Colorado and Nebraska. McDonald’s is taking action by removing slivered onions, sourced from a single supplier, from affected areas. Quarter Pounder burgers will be temporarily unavailable in Western states while the company works to replenish ingredients. Other beef products are not affected. E. coli symptoms include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. McDonald’s has had past cases of E. coli outbreaks.
