Man charged in apparent Trump plot wrote ‘This was an assassination attempt,’ court filing shows

A man named Ryan Wesley Routh was charged in connection with an attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Florida. He left a box at someone’s home with a letter declaring it was an assassination attempt. The box contained ammunition, phones, and letters expressing his motives. Routh was arrested after a Secret Service agent spotted him with a rifle aimed at Trump. The FBI found evidence linking Routh to the crime, including cell phone records and a notebook with information on Ukraine. Further investigation revealed a hidden rifle with an obliterated serial number near the golf course. Routh is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
