Karnataka Health Department to collaborate with NIMHANS to chalk out effective suicide prevention programme



The Health Minister of Karnataka, Dinesh Gundu Rao, announced a partnership with NIMHANS to develop a suicide prevention program. The N-SPRITE Centre was launched at NIMHANS to focus on research, policy development, and training initiatives for suicide prevention. The aim is to address the rising number of suicides in India and change public perceptions about mental health and suicide. The centre will work on various initiatives such as self-harm registers, mental health assessments, training for healthcare providers, and community-based interventions. The goal is to strengthen mental health infrastructure and reduce the number of lives lost to suicide.
