Iranian-German prisoner Jamshid Sharmahd, who was kidnapped in Dubai in 2020 by Iranian security forces, has been executed in Iran on terror charges disputed by his family. The judiciary accused him of being under Western intelligence agencies’ orders when carrying out attacks in Iran. Sharmahd’s family denied the allegations and tried to see him freed. Germany and the U.S. have condemned Iran’s treatment of Sharmahd, calling it reprehensible and a sham trial. Amnesty International criticized the trial as grossly unfair, stating Sharmahd was denied access to an independent lawyer. Iran is one of the world’s top executioners, with a significant increase in executions in recent years.
