FBI report shows decrease in violent crime, increase in motor vehicle theft in 2023

The FBI’s 2023 crime report showed a decrease in both violent crime and property crime nationwide. Violent crime, including murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, decreased by around 3% from the previous year. Property crime also saw a 2.4% drop, with decreases in burglary and larceny, but an increase in motor vehicle theft. Despite the overall decrease in property crime, car thefts were up substantially in 2022. The report comes just before the presidential election, where crime has been a key issue.
