‘Fat Leonard’ mastermind behind largest corruption scandal in US military history sentenced to 15 years

Leonard Glenn Francis, also known as “Fat Leonard,” was sentenced to 15 years in prison for orchestrating a massive bribery and corruption scandal involving numerous U.S. Navy officials. He was also ordered to pay $20 million in restitution to the Navy and a $150,000 fine. Francis had previously fled the country but was later arrested and brought back to the U.S. He admitted to providing free meals, prostitutes, and other items to Naval personnel in exchange for their help in securing port visits for Naval vessels, which he then overcharged the Navy for. Despite his actions being described as “aggravated and egregious,” he will receive credit for providing information on hundreds of individuals involved in the scandal.
