Drainage issue follows rains at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai

The Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai is facing a serious issue of sewage water overflowing on its premises, especially with the onset of the northeast monsoon and continuous rain in the past week. The hospital’s drainage system is outdated and unable to efficiently handle the disposal of sewage water and rainwater. This has led to overflowing manholes and wastewater collection points, creating a health hazard for patients and hospital workers. The unhygienic surroundings may increase the risk of diseases and mosquito breeding. Health activist A. Veronica Mary is urging the hospital administration to take immediate action to remove sludge from the drainage system and cover the openings to prevent infectious diseases. She believes that a small investment in solving the drainage problem would go a long way in ensuring a healthy environment for everyone at the hospital.
