Delhi Commissioner, Mayor at odds over zonal committee elections

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was in turmoil as Mayor Shelly Oberoi refused to appoint presiding officers for the upcoming zonal committee elections, citing concerns about the democratic process. However, MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar overruled her decision and stated that the elections would proceed as scheduled. The BJP welcomed the Commissioner’s order, while the AAP did not issue a response. The outcome of the elections could result in a unique scenario where the ruling party in the MCD House is different from the party controlling the Standing Committee.
