Dan Hurley’s rejection stings, but pain doesn’t have to linger for Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers were publicly turned down by their top coaching choice, Dan Hurley, causing some embarrassment. However, this isn’t the first time the Lakers have faced rejection in their coaching search. In 2019, they were also turned down by top candidates Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams. The Lakers have a history of missing out on their first choice but still finding success, as they did with coach Frank Vogel in 2019.

The Lakers are facing challenges with an aging LeBron James, limited salary-cap space, and a competitive Western Conference. Their coaching search is ongoing, with names like J.J. Redick being linked to the job. Ultimately, the Lakers have a track record of finding the right coach at the right time, and their roster moves this summer may be more crucial than their coaching hire in the short term.
