China targeted phones of Trump, Vance and Harris campaign affiliates, sources say

A Chinese hacking campaign targeted the phones of Donald Trump, JD Vance, Kamala Harris, and Chuck Schumer’s staff, among others. The FBI and CISA are investigating the unauthorized access to U.S. telecommunications infrastructure by actors affiliated with China. While it’s not clear if communications were stolen, it’s part of China’s long history of cyberespionage. The hack doesn’t seem to be aimed at influencing the 2024 presidential election. The U.S. accuses Iran and Russia of similar operations, but China’s goal is to undermine U.S. society rather than sway the election. China denies interfering in the election.
