80 years after her father’s death in WWII, she finally learned the where and how

Gerri Eisenhauer’s father, Army Pvt. William Walters, died in World War II when she was just a baby. For years, her family had no details about his death until French historian Christophe Ligere found her and shared the story of how Walters died in France at the age of 20. Eisenhauer and her family traveled to France to honor Walters and meet Marc Perrot, who witnessed his death. The people of Grez-sur-Loing had cared for Walters’ body before it was returned to the U.S. Eisenhauer finally feels at peace and grateful to the French for remembering and honoring her father’s sacrifice after 80 years.
