Donald Trump’s campaign is considering withholding federal police grants from local law enforcement agencies that refuse to participate in the largest mass deportation of undocumented immigrants in U.S. history, if he is re-elected. This move could face legal challenges, as a similar policy did during Trump’s first term. The tactic is aimed at pressuring blue states, counties, and cities to cooperate in mass deportations. Sanctuary cities and states currently decline to alert ICE about undocumented immigrants, and Trump has promised to round up immigrants with criminal records or final orders of deportation if he returns to office. The plan would cost nearly 10 times ICE’s current budget and could lead to legal battles.
